Barrett named critic for Consumer Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Sept. 30, 2013

QUEEN’S PARK – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett was named the critic for the Minister of Consumer Services.

The Ministry of Consumer Services’ goal is to promote a fair, safe and informed marketplace. It’s a diverse ministry, overseeing not only consumer transactions, but also several industry-specific laws such as the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, Payday Loans Act, the funeral industry, real estate, wine industry, travel industry and TSSA.

“This change is exciting,” Barrett said. “There is pending legislation dealing with the Payday Loans Act, water heating scams and phantom real estate offers.”

Over the years, Barrett has had involvement with many sectors overseen by the industry while representing people and businesses of the riding.

“With a portion of the riding poised to be the next wine region of Ontario, I look forward to having more involvement with the evolution of the local vintage industry,” Barrett said.

Barrett’s previous position was critic to the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
