Simcoe — Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says when it comes to legislation removing McGuinty’s HST from home heating bills, he will be voting the same way he campaigned during the election to scrap the hated tax.

Barrett echoed comments of Ontario’s Opposition Leader Tim Hudak who noted that the planned NDP private members bill takes a page right out of the PC platform – indicating the bill will have his support.

“We’ve been campaigning long and hard to remove the HST from electricity and home heating as Ontario families simply can’t afford the added cost on top of all the other McGuinty-inspired hikes to energy bills,” Barrett indicated. “The NDP private members bill will provide an opportunity to hold this new minority government to account on an issue that speaks to all Ontarians.”

With 37 Conservative votes and 17 NDP votes, compared to 53 for the Liberals, there is a very real possibility the planned NDP bill could receive the support necessary to remove the HST off energy.
