Barrett warns of future tax hikes under Taxman McGuinty

For Immediate Release:
June 20, 2011

Friday, Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett took to the streets of Simcoe to highlight the long list of taxes Dalton McGuinty has implemented.

He also highlighted Dalton McGuinty’s plan for future tax hikes.

First, Dalton McGuinty broke his 2003 and 2007 promises not to raise taxes and, in fact, imposed the largest income tax increase (the so-called ‘health’ tax) and sales tax increase (the HST) after each election.

Second, Dalton McGuinty, his advisors, and his Ministers have all been caught musing about increasing taxes – including multiple hints that they plan to impose a massive new carbon tax that will punish Ontario families for using energy. The taxman will strike again.

Third, Dalton McGuinty must increase taxes in order to pay for his secret deals with foreign multinationals such as Samsung and secret wage hike deals with OPSEU and others.

In contrast to the Taxman, Tim Hudak, Toby Barrett and the Ontario PC Party will, through changebook, provide relief for Ontario families. Ontario PC changebook tax relief commitments include removing the HST from hydro and home heating fuels, reducing income taxes by 5% on the first $75,000 earned, and the introduction of income sharing for all couples.
