QUEEN’S PARK – Education funding will increase in the 2019 budget.

“Budget 2019 focuses on protecting what matters most – our world-class health care and education systems. We need to make sure Haldimand-Norfolk is protected for generations to come,” said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. “This is also a plan that puts people first, while making Ontario open for business and open for jobs.”

According to budget details, the planned education spending for 2019-20 is $31.5 billion. Last year’s budget was $30.7 billion.

Included in the education funding is $1.4 billion for school renewal in the coming budget year. Over the coming 10 years, $13 billion is allocated to build new schools and to update existing buildings.

“We are modernizing our education system in order to update the curriculum, better utilize technology, and give students the skills they need to succeed,” Barrett said. “Our continued investment reaffirms our government’s commitment to modernizing our education system, and putting the student at the centre of every decision we make.”
