For Immediate Release:
July 26, 2011
Ridgetown – Almost two weeks after writing a letter to the Minister asking government to allow adequate time for public input on the Capital Power Port Dover-Nanticoke wind project, Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Barrett has confirmed the window for comment has been extended another month.
“The timing of the original government EBR posting for comment on the Capital Power project over the July First holiday weekend clearly left many of those concerned unaware that a 30 day window was already beginning to close,” Barrett noted. “Much like last year’s July First eco tax surprise, this EBR posting caught many unaware – another month at least allows notice for those concerned wishing to comment.”
Barrett wrote a letter to Environment Minister John Wilkinson July 14th highlighting, “numerous calls to my office indicating concern for that impact,” and requesting consideration for, “an extension of the EBR public commentary period for the Capital Power Port Dover-Nanticoke project.”
The Capital Power project calls for 58 wind turbine generators with a total generation capacity of 104.4 megawatts in the Port Dover and Nanticoke areas.
According to the now amended EBR notice, the proposal was posted, “on June 30th 2011 for a 30 day comment period. The comment period is being extended another 30 days to allow for additional consultation.”
Those wishing to submit comments have until August 29th to write to, Kristina Rudzki, 2 St. Clair Avenue, Floor 12A, Toronto, Ontario, M4V 1L5, and have their concerns registered.
According to the EBR posting: “All comments received prior to August 29, 2011 will be considered as part of the decision-making process by the Ministry of the Environment.”
The EBR notice and online commentary information can be accessed here.
