Families deserve choice rather than one-size-fits-all government-run program

Simcoe – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says Ontario families deserve choice instead of a big, one-size-fits-all government-run program as it relates to full-day kindergarten.

Barrett is responding to a news release sent to area media from Liberal MPP Bob Chiarelli who claims the Conservatives will eliminate full-day everyday kindergarten.

“Mr. Chiarelli should get his facts straight before putting pen to paper,” Barrett said. “Tim Hudak has made it clear that an Ontario PC government will keep the full-day everyday kindergarten for those families who already have children enrolled in the program.

“We’ll have to look at the fiscal situation Dalton McGuinty will leave behind and move forward based on what Ontario families can afford. That’s the responsible approach.”

The local MPP went on to say that he and his colleagues have been demanding the McGuinty government come clean on what they are exactly spending on programs. He fears the Liberals have not committed the funding necessary to properly implement programs, which may see school boards footing the bill to make room.
