Help find the cure for Dalton Deficit Disorder (DDD)

February 11, 2011

Simcoe – Haldimand Norfolk’s MPP is encouraging Ontario residents to join together in an effort to treat a wasteful affliction that is costing the province billions.

“It’s called Dalton Deficit Disorder,” quipped MPP Toby Barrett. “It’s caused by wasteful spending and has seen our government spend an estimated $18.7 billion over and above the massive taxes taken in 2010.”

In an effort to tighten the belt on government’s waste-line, Barrett is joining Opposition Leader Hudak in encouraging residents to check out, and relate their own tales of government waste at, www.WasteWatchers.ca

“Whether it is the $1-billion eHealth boondoggle, extravagant expenses at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, or the ballooning Ontario Power Authority, it is clear that McGuinty’s DDD has driven us into further debt and ballooning deficits that are spiraling out of control,” Barrett noted. “Ontario families are the ones’ stuck with the bill. They are not getting their money’s worth and they cannot afford this kind of wasteful spending.”

Barrett added that while he is earnest in his search for a cure to Dalton Deficit Disorder, it has earned McGuinty some recent national recognition from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation annual “Teddy” awards, recognizing the best of the worst in government waste.

According to the Toronto Sun, “Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty won in his category for paying out millions in severance fees to, provincial sales tax collectors who, the day after they got their provincial severance cheques, went to work in the very same offices as federal harmonized sales tax collectors.”
