Hydro One executive salaries soar while Ontarians struggle with paying power bills

QUEEN’S PARK – During Question Period this week, Opposition Leader Patrick Brown asked Premier Wynne why her government is paying Hydro One executives lavish salaries, while average Ontario families cannot afford to pay their electricity bills.

“Hydro One executive pay is out of line with the rest of Canada,” said Brown.  “The combined salaries of six hydro executives in four provinces are still less than the $4 million being paid to the new Hydro One CEO. Why didn’t the Premier set limits on Hydro One salaries when so many people in Ontario are struggling to pay their hydro bills?”

“In British Columbia, hydro bills are half of what they are in Ontario,” added Leader Patrick Brown.  “British Columbia’s Liberal government isn’t forcing seniors to choose between heating and eating.  Hydro One’s new multi-million executive salaries will have to be paid for through higher and higher hydro bills.  Why is the Premier making life more and more unaffordable for the people of Ontario just so she can dish out lavish pay cheques to Hydro One executives?”

“This is another example of how far out of touch this government is with people’s financial realities,” said MPP Toby Barrett. “When expenses are out of control – which is the case – you don’t increase salaries.”
