Keep up the pressure on Highway 6 potholes: Barrett

HAGERSVILLE –Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett continues to pressure the province to fix potholes on Highway 6 between Hagersville and Caledonia.

Over a week ago, Barrett’s office was in contact with the office of Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca, asking for action. This follows up on months of action working on safety issues associated with Highway 6.

Last week was one of upheaval in Ontario’s transportation world. MTO Minister Del Duca was replaced by Kathryn McGarry during a recent Cabinet shuffle.

To confuse the matter Carillion UK, which is the parent company of Ontario’s maintenance contractor, is in financial difficulties.

“Upon learning of the UK Carillion collapse we immediately called for government response to the potential impacts in Ontario, and continue to urgently demand immediate answers as to what ‘options’ the Minister is referring to ‘should the situation change’,” said Opposition Transportation Critic Michael Harris.

After McGarry was named Minister of Transportation on Wednesday, Barrett’s office reached out twice more for a progress update on the situation. Contact has also been made with the MTO regional office and Carillion.

For complaints about potholes on provincial highways, continue to contact Barrett at 905-765-8413 or toby.barrett@pc.ola.org, Carillion at 1-855-557-8478, Minister Kathryn McGarry at 1-800-268-4686 and MTO Deputy Minister Stephen Rhodes at 416-327-9162.
