Local groups benefit from Trillium

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 1, 2019

Deadline approaching for next round of grants

SIMCOE – Three groups in Haldimand-Norfolk were successful applicants to the latest round of Trillium Foundation grants.

Long Point Basin Land Trust received a $150,000 grant to cover the cost in acquiring 78 hectares of land within the Trout Creek Valley Natural Area and Big Creek Watershed. This initiative will help conservation and restoration effects be better planned and more sustainable.

True Experience Supportive Housing and Community Work Program of Dunnville will also receive $150,000 from Trillium. The money will be used to purchase and operate a supportive housing property for people with mental illness.

The Norfolk Hammerheads Aquatic Club grant is $13,300. It will be used to upgrade the equipment used to train competitive swimmers and to run swim meets.

The local grants are part of over $80 million invested province-wide to support 404 non-profit initiatives.

“These organizations are delivering initiatives that are already contributing,” said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. “Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our government is helping them to expand these initiatives, which means they will benefit even more residents in the area.”

The next application deadline for the next round of funding is Feb. 6 by 5 p.m.
