MPP Barrett to repeat call for Caledonia Inquiry

For Immediate Release:
September 24, 2010

Queens Park: Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett will reiterate his call for an inquiry into province’s role in the ongoing Caledonia land dispute.

Barrett is set to speak to MPP Ted Chudleigh’s private members bill titled, the Public Inquiry into Caledonia Act, 2010, Thursday afternoon.

“I’m eager to get the opportunity to readdress the need for a public inquiry into Caledonia after Premier McGuinty stacked the deck against my 2009 private members bill calling for a similar investigation,” Barrett stated. “I’m hopeful that this time around our Premier will not jeopardize this process with pre-debate marching orders to reject further investigation into the dire impacts of the ongoing situation in Caledonia.”

Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh’s bill calls for government to: “establish a Commission to inquire into and report on the provincial role in the ongoing dispute on the Douglas Creek Estates property in Caledonia and to make recommendations. The Commission has the powers of a commission under a public inquiry.”
