New committee and policy responsibilities for MPP Barrett

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 2, 2012

Queens Park – The second week of the Ontario Legislature saw Haldimand Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett take on new roles to his legislative duties.

With the McGuinty government finally allowing Committee work to begin – now five months after the Ontario election – Barrett has been elected Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. Barrett was formally nominated by government member Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph, and seconded by Frances Gelinas, NDP MPP for Nickel Belt.

“I look forward to taking on this role and ensuring our Public Accounts Committee succeeds in reviewing the recommendations of the Auditor General, and the Public Accounts,” stated Barrett. “Specifically, I anticipate digging deeper into the AG’s concerns and findings regarding Renewable Energy Initiatives and controversy surrounding ORNGE ambulance services.”

As well, earlier in the week, Barrett was chosen to head up the PC Social Policy and Justice Policy Advisory Committee to dovetail with his previous appointment as Opposition Critic for the Ministry of Community and Social Services.

“Much of my work will involve issues of justice, social policy and financial audits,” Barrett noted. “I encourage those interested to contact my office to get involved and provide input.”
