Norfolk to receive more than $240,000 in gas tax funding

SIMCOE – Norfolk County will be receiving $244,393 through the Gas Tax Program to support the expansion and improvement of public transit services.

Funding for the Gas Tax program is determined by the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous year. Municipalities that support public transit services in their community receive two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenue, which can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.

The  government is committed to helping municipalities improve transit in every corner of the province, and that’s why this year, we are providing $375.6 million through the through the Gas Tax Program to help 107 municipalities across the province provide better transit services to more than 12 million people. This includes $120.4 million in one-time additional funding to stabilize Gas Tax allocations this year.

This funding is in addition to the up to $2.15 billion provided by the provincial and federal governments to municipal transit systems across the province in response to COVID-19 through the Safe Restart Agreement.
