PORT DOVER — Ontario is moving forward with its ambitious and multi-layered plan to bring high-speed internet to all communities across the province. Haldimand County is one of the communities benefitting from today’s $14.7 million announcement.
The government is providing funding to connect homes in the Featherstone area to reliable high-speed internet. Twelve other projects, across 42 unserved or underserved communities, also received funding with a combined total of $14.7 million.
“Connecting Ontario to fast reliable internet has been a goal of our government since elected in 2018,” said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. “Affordable broadband is essential in rural and cottage country to share information, close deals, process payments, and connect with customers and with markets. Being disconnected means being disadvantaged if people cannot stay connected with family and friends, or access public services such as health care and education.”
Recently, Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma announced the government would move forward with its ambitious plan to bring high-speed internet to all communities across the province by 2025. This $4 billion commitment is the largest single investment in high-speed internet, in any province, by any government in Canadian history.
The Ministry of Infrastructure has also introduced a new innovative procurement process. The new approach and transformative investments will ensure no household or business is left behind when it comes to accessing our digital world.
“This approach builds on Ontario’s existing initiatives to expand high-speed internet in communities across the province, many of which are already connecting homes and businesses today,” Barrett said.
