Documentary on Lyme disease to be screened Sept. 10

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Aug. 30, 2016

SIMCOE- In conjunction with the Ontario Lyme Alliance, MPP Toby Barrett is helping to host a local screening of “Emergence” – a film documentary on the challenges facing those with Lyme disease.

“Emergence” will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Strand Theatre in Simcoe, from 4 to 6 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Barrett was behind Bill 27, An Act to Require a Provincial Framework and Action Plan Concerning Vector-borne Diseases, a bill which was passed in June 2015 with all-party support. The new legislation mandates government to: enhance surveillance of emerging vector-borne diseases like Lyme disease; establish guidelines for the prevention, identification, treatment and management; increase awareness through an education campaign as well as promote research.

“I thank the Ontario Lyme Alliance for bringing this hard-hitting film to our area,” Barrett said. “We hope for a good turnout for this screening as another step in fighting Lyme disease.”
