Queen’s Park – The Vice Chair of Ontario’s Public Accounts Committee is hopeful a Speaker’s Warrant for Dr. Chris Mazza will allow the committee to delve deeper over the summer into the Ornge air-ambulance scandal.
Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says a second Speaker’s warrant has been issued for the Ornge founder to force him to appear July 18th after he failed to testify last month because two doctors said he was unfit to do so.
“I look forward to any light Dr. Mazza can shed on an operation he has watched over and benefited from while taxpayers have provided funding to the tune of $700 million since 2006,” noted Barrett. “Since that time, that funding for Ontario’s air ambulance service has allowed for the creation of an intricate web of for-profit companies rife with financial irregularities.
“We in Opposition continue to seek the truth and any sense of government responsibility after revelations of financial irregularities and compromised patient safety.”
Committee deliberations continued today and are scheduled to resume July 18th, followed by a series of possible hearings throughout the summer.
