Trillium locomotives wind to a halt today

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Dec. 20, 2013

SIMCOE- Trillium Railway locomotives have ground to a halt today.

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett was hopeful a solution can be found to keep rail service alive in the riding after the short line ceased to operate on the Canadian National tracks between St. Thomas and Delhi. The track reverts back to CN.

By way of keeping the rail issue on the front burner, Barrett raised the issue in the Ontario Legislature, submitted an Order Paper Question, and followed up with a letter to the Minister of Transportation today.

“I understand negotiations are underway to seek alternatives to maintain service to various customers along the line,” Barrett said. “One of the outstanding issues is service to the Growmark fertilizer plant in Delhi. If a solution isn’t found, it will mean more transport trucks on provincial and municipal roads and added costs for the plant and area farmers.”
