Highway 6 South at airport to be widened\u00a0<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 18, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CALEDONIA \u2013 The Ontario government will be widening Highway 6 South near Hamilton Airport.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHighway 6 will be expanded to four lanes from Upper James past the airport to Highway 403,\u201d said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. \u201cAecom has been picked to undertake preliminary design and to complete an environmental assessment.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur smart, targeted highway investments, like widening Highway 6 South in Hamilton, will better connect communities, create good-paying jobs and support the needs of a growing population,\u201d said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. \u201cFour-laning this corridor will improve the movement of people and goods, while serving the national, regional and local economies.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highway 6 from Highway 403 to Upper James Street is the primary connection from John Munro Hamilton International Airport to the Greater Golden Horseshoe via Highway 403. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe widening of Highway 6 from two lanes to four is vital to the continued growth of the John Munro Hamilton International Airport and the surrounding areas,\u201d said Donna Skelly, MPP Flamborough-Glanbrook. \u201cThis is an important step forward in our work to ensure the safe, efficient movement of people and goods here in Hamilton and across the region.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Preliminary Design and EA Update Study will include outreach to Indigenous communities, municipalities, and stakeholders including the airport and business owners, and will commence in spring 2022, with a targeted completion of spring 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
