Queens Park – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett stood in the Legislative Chamber today to recognize a Norfolk County hero – Master Bombardier Adam Holmes of Delhi.
Barrett delivered a members statement today to highlight the award of the Canadian Medal of Military Valour, to the Afghan war veteran.
“He was cited for actions during a four-day battle in Afghanistan during his second tour of duty in the summer of 2010,” Barrett informed the Legislature. “Stationed in the Arghandab District north of Kandahar City, Holmes helped train the Afghan military while serving as a forward combat soldier fighting in near daily enemy contact alongside the 101st US Airborne Division.
“In one fierce battle, Holmes fought in close quarters with Taliban before suffering serious leg and arm injuries in a mortar attack.”
A member of the Yankee Battery of the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, and the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group at CFB Petawawa, Holmes is the son of David and Kay Holmes.
Barrett concluded quoting Commander of the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, Col. Simon Hetherington: “we are in awe of the courage and selflessness he showed that resulted in the award of this medal. His actions were truly inspiring and serve as an excellent example for all of us in uniform.”
