Back to work at Queen’s Park in July – Barrett

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 20, 2014

Simcoe – Fresh off the campaign trail, MPPs are being called back to Queen’s Park on July 2nd.

It will be a busy day for new and returning members as all will need to be sworn in, an election for the Speaker of the House will be held, and the Official Opposition will be choosing an interim leader.

Inside the Ontario Legislature that day, the Lieutenant Governor will deliver a throne speech. We will then review the very budget that triggered this spring’s provincial election. Several weeks of budget debate is expected in July.

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett looks forward to hearing how the majority Liberal government will put Ontario back on track, including balancing the books. He points to a statement made by Kathleen Wynne in 2012 – “When I say we need to stay on government’s fiscal plan of balancing the budget by 2017-2018, I mean it,” she said.

“I take Ms. Wynne on her word,” Barrett stressed. “She has made a promise to eliminate the deficit in three years. If this includes rejecting a policy of ‘tax and spend’ then I will work as an opposition member to help her keep that promise.”
