Input sought on small game regulations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 24, 2017

SIMCOE – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett wants to make area hunters aware of several proposals to change small game seasons.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has an Environmental Bill of Rights posting proposing to change and simplify small game seasons across the province. Comments are being accepted until Jan. 31.

Some of the changes that affect Haldimand and Norfolk are cutting the limit on ruffed grouse to two birds (from five), closing ruffed grouse season earlier on Dec. 31 (rather than Jan. 15), increasing the limit on pheasants to 10 (from 3)and extending pheasant season from Sept. 25 to Dec. 31 (was Oct. 19 to Dec. 15).

Comments  can be submitted through the EBR site (https://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEB-External/displaynoticecontent.do?noticeId=MTMxMDUy&statusId=MTk4NjY5) or by mail at Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Species Conservation Policy Branch, 300 Water Street, Peterborough Ontario, K9J 8M5 or by phone (705) 755-1940 under number 012-9170.
