Local MPP touts area festivals, fairs and fun

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 25, 2017

QUEEN’S PARK – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett sent an open invitation to attend “some of the best fairs in the province” in the Legislature today.

He mentioned Dunnville’s Mudcat Festival, Port Rowan Bayfest, Charlotteville’s Donnybook, Delhi’s Fall Fest and Pumpkinfest.

“The week leading up to Thanksgiving presents two great fairs – Caledonia Fair and the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show,” he said. “The Norfolk Fair has attracted up to 160,000 people and ranks fifth largest – competing with the likes of the CNE and Royal Winter Fair.”

Barrett paid tribute to the spirit of fairs.

“Caledonia, Norfolk, all fairs and festivals take us all back to our younger days of riding the carousel, candy floss, taffy, caramel corn – the lights, the music, the buzz of the crowd,” he said. “Following Caledonia, the Norfolk Fair offers Young Canada Day, Warrior’s Day, country stars Tim Hicks and Chad Brownlee, monster trucks and demolition derbies, the livestock barns as well as all the beautiful show and heavy horses.”

PRELIMINARY HANSARD

ONTARIO LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

Sept. 25, 2017

FALL FAIRS

Mr. Toby Barrett: Haldimand–Norfolk’s blessed with an abundance and fairs and festival unique to our diversified, rich farm heritage, ranging from the Dunnville Mudcat Festival, Port Rowan’s Bayfest, Charlottesville Donnybrook, Delhi’s Fall Fest, you find something to do every weekend leading up to Waterford, capping it off with Pumpkinfest.

The week leading up to Thanksgiving presents two great fairs: Caledonia and the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show. Norfolk Fair will attract up to 150,000 people. It ranks the fifth largest, competing with the likes of the CNE and the Royal Winter Fair.

Here at Queen’s Park and elsewhere I get asked: “Which country star or band is attending the stage? Are cabbage rolls on the menu? Where do I get the Dixie Dog? Who grew the biggest pumpkin this year?” Caledonia, Norfolk—all the fairs and festivals take us back to our younger days––again the Dixie Dogs, candy floss, caramel corn, the lights, the music and the buzz of the crowd.

Following Caledonia, the Norfolk fair offers Young Canada Day, Warriors Day, country stars, Tim Hicks and Chad Brownlee, monster trucks, demolition derbies, the livestock barns of course, as well beautiful show and heavy horses.

I invite everybody down to Norfolk–Haldimand to come down and take in some of the best fairs in the province.
