QUEEN’S PARK – Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says direct linkages between the incoming Premier and the billion dollars wasted on cancelled gas plants should cause concern for those hoping for any 11th hour reprieve to keep a repowered Nanticoke OPG open.
“Kathleen Wynne served as 2011 campaign co-chair for the Liberals – the same year the
decision was made to save five Liberal seats by cancelling the Mississauga and Oakville gas plants,” Barrett said. “Wynne treated public funds as if they belonged to the Liberal Party, sticking taxpayers with the bill.”
The connection and concern grows deeper given the fact that Charles Sousa’s seat was saved with the Mississauga gas plant cancellation – the same Charles Sousa whose support was key to Wynne’s Leadership victory.
“I’ve yet to hear Ms. Wynne explain her involvement in the politically-motivated decision to cancel these two plants that has seen hundreds of millions of dollars diverted from important public services like health care, education and job creation,” noted Barrett. “The faces may have changed, but the scandal remains….clearly taxpayers deserve answers on the billion dollar boondoggle.
